Bank of Ireland Bizworld

This week we had a visit from Bank of Ireland employee and Mayo Senior Footballer Keith Higgins. Keith spent two days with us carrying out the Bizworld programme, an initiative by Bank of Ireland to give the children a greater understanding and appreciation of all things business. The children learned a lot about business plans, profit equations, revenue streams, marketing and much more. The students were divided into teams, each team put their thinking caps on and came up with an innovative business idea. Each team had a number of jobs to fill; Managing Director, Director of Finance, Director of Design, Director of Production, Director of Marketing and Director of Sales. We all learned a lot about each of these roles. After many business meetings, marketing startegies, advertising campaigns and sales strategies, the children then had to pitch their business ideas in a 'Dragon's Den' style scenario. Branch Managers from Bank of Ireland Michael Costello and Ger Scully played the role of the 'Dragons' and put the children's business ideas under the microscope. Both Michael and Ger were very impressed with the children's creative ideas as well as their presentation skills. We would like to thank Bank of Ireland, particularly Keith, Michael and Ger for allowing us to participate in this thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile programme. Hopefully some budding entrepreneurs have been unearthed in the process!
